January 2014

2013 has been an outstanding year from every perspective for the Library and the Cafe. The volunteers have successfully navigated all that Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter can throw at them and the Village has shown its appreciation with magnificant support.

Over 10,680 drinks have now been served together with 900 cakes (making 9,000 servings) all baked by Village folk. The cafe has also benefited from new tables and chairs which take up less room.

Biblio's Cafe has reached the Midlands Regional Finalists round of the CountrySide Alliance Awards in the Start-Up Category. Keep your fingers crossed for further good news here - our fate is now in the hands of the judges.

243 pieces of artwork from 37 local artists have been exhibited on the Library and Cafe walls and a highly successful single artist exhibition was held during Warwick Arts fortnight. All this has greatly contributed to an ever changing vista not to mention opportunity for local artists to display their work.

In addition the Library has
added over 1,000 books to its stock - all donated from Villagers or purchased through the "buy a book" scheme. These are in addition to the regularly updated collection from WCC. Over 400 people have registered to make use of this additional stock and loans are running at around 200 volumes per month in addition to WCC books. There have also been a number of successful sales of surplus stock at the Village Summer Fair and the Victorian Street Fair where the Cafe bakers provided a terrific selection of cakes which were all snapped up in double quick time.
The library book shelves are well stocked.  Despite our independent status we still host the Warwickshire County Council library service and the stock is now supplemented with the nearly new donated books. The shelves are nearly full to capacity.

We continue to be able to take advantage of the WCC online renewing service  so you can take out WCC books from other libraries and return them locally and vice versa.   Harbury's own books can be renewed in person or by phone, but they have to be returned to Harbury Library.  We will continue with the successful free Book Exchange in the library entrance.
We look forward to receiving  more donated, good quality modern books, especially biographies and non fiction works.

Library and Cafe opening times are in the left panel; also see the Calendar for information about other events.

Other Services: Free internet access is provided so bring along your own laptop, tablet or phone and log on via wifi or you can use one of our three computers as well as our colour printing facilities. You can fax out single sided A4 documents for a modest charge (we don't offer a fax-in service). Notices up to A4 size can be laminated at a modest charge to protect them from rain and handling - please enquire at the counter for details. In addition there are many leaflets in the foyer, at the reception desk and on the end of the book shelves about local organisations and events.

We are here!
